I am a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) and Test Automation Architect based in the Netherlands, helping organizations build reliable, scalable software in complex cloud environments.

With a strong background in software development, I design and implement test automation frameworks for microservices, APIs, and modern web applications. My contribution goes beyond automation alone. I analyze business logic at code level, challenge assumptions, and validate system behavior from both a technical and functional perspective.

I add value across the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), from early requirement analysis and architectural discussions to CI/CD integration, performance validation, and production readiness. By combining development expertise with strategic quality engineering, I help teams detect risks early, strengthen system design, and ensure business requirements will serve the needs of the end user.

I specialize in:

  • Cloud-native and distributed systems
  • API and integration testing
  • Performance and reliability engineering
  • Automation architecture for CI/CD

As a freelance quality engineering consultant, I focus on creating sustainable solutions that improve feedback cycles, reduce production risk, and enable confident continuous delivery.

Transavia

Software Development Engineer in Test

Nov 2025–Present

At Transavia I contribute to modernizing the airline’s customer-facing web platform, migrating from a legacy .NET and Sitecore architecture to TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Kontent.ai. Legacy and modern platforms continue to coexist while new business functionality is built exclusively on the new stack.

  • Led the transition from Selenium-based web automation to Playwright, redesigning the framework and tooling to improve maintainability, execution stability, and developer experience.
  • Designed and developed a custom snapshot comparison CLI to validate session synchronization between the legacy and modern platforms, helping detect critical inconsistencies before production.
  • Introduced AI-assisted workflows and guardrails to increase the team’s capacity for creating and maintaining automated tests while ensuring code quality and consistency.

APG

Software Development Engineer in Test

Jul 2024–Nov 2025

At APG I contributed to the development and quality assurance of systems supporting the implementation of new Dutch pension regulations. The platform consisted of distributed services and workflow-driven processes handling complex business rules and integrations with third-party software.

  • Rehauled the test strategy for third-party software integrations by introducing more isolated and maintainable integration and end-to-end testing, enabling faster and more reliable production releases.
  • Integrated E2E and integration tests into CI/CD pipelines, improving feedback speed and release confidence.

Shell Recharge Solutions

Test Architect / Software Development Engineer in Test

Sep 2022–Jul 2024

At Shell Recharge Solutions I contributed to the backend platform powering Shell’s global EV charging ecosystem, including the Shell Recharge mobile application. The platform is a large-scale microservices architecture supporting charging location discovery, session management, roaming integrations, and payment processing.

  • Defined and implemented the test strategy for multiple distributed services, with a strong focus on integration, end-to-end, and system-level testing in a cloud-native environment.
  • Integrated automated tests into CI/CD following shift-left principles, reducing feedback cycles to seconds and enabling rapid deployments.
  • Developed mocks, stubs, and isolated test environments that improved development feedback loops and troubleshooting efficiency.
  • Rolled out the test strategy across multiple teams and mentored engineers to improve overall test maturity and consistency.

VECOZO

C# Developer

Jun 2021–Sep 2022

At VECOZO I contributed to the development and maintenance of business-critical services within a large-scale microservices architecture used throughout the Dutch healthcare sector. The platform processed high transaction volumes and supported secure data exchange between healthcare providers and insurers.

  • Designed and implemented an isolated test strategy for newly developed services and incorporated it into CI/CD pipelines, reducing release cycles from weeks to days.
  • Introduced Playwright to modernize web test automation, improving maintainability, execution speed, and reliability of automated UI testing.

RDC inMotiv

C# Full-Stack Developer

Jun 2019–Jun 2021

Contributed to a microservices-based platform for automotive inventory management, working across frontend and backend within an API-first and event-driven architecture.

  • Designed and implemented automated regression testing and contributed to the overall test strategy.
  • Worked across frontend and backend systems.

Beround

Test Automation Engineer / Software Developer

Jun 2016–Jun 2019

Delivered multiple consultancy assignments within government and enterprise environments focused on backend development, test automation, system integration, and data migration.

  • Developed APIs and backend integrations for the Dutch Teacher Registry project.
  • Designed Selenium-based automation frameworks and integrated automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Supported large-scale data migration and transformation projects.
  • Developed SQL reporting solutions and Power BI integrations for business analytics.

Worked together at Shell

I have worked with Wouter for the last two years and have been continually impressed with his contributions to the team and our projects. He quickly learns both the domain and the tech stack, regardless of prior experience. He's is comfortable taking ownership and being fully accountable for his own deliverables, as well as contributing on a wider project level. I've always respected his willingness to challenge decisions he doesn't agree with, which fosters healthy discussions and often leads to better outcomes. Furthermore, I have enjoyed working with him and his famously dry sense of humor!

Worked together at VECOZO

Wouter and I worked on several projects for VECOZO software products. I enjoyed working together with Wouter and really liked his sense of humor, his speed in mastering skills and his way of providing balance to a team setup. On top of that he delivers solid work of good quality and on time. He would be a great addition to any software development team!
